Welcome to WAHA Jr!

A program to bless elementary school age children!

Remember, your children may participate in both WAHA Jr. and regular WAHA if they can
'keep up with the big kids.' Lots of WAHA Jr. students participated in Middle School classes
last year. We think that's great!

Here are several things you need to know. Please read this page carefully. We hope to be a blessing to your family this year!

1. For 2009-2010, children five through eleven years (and those turning twelve during the school year) are eligible for WAHA Jr. We use September 1st as an age cutoff date, but this is just a guideline. If Mom and Dad believe their child is ready, we try to include them if possible. You may also choose to put a twelve year old in WAHA Jr. in the morning, and in WAHA classes in the afternoon.

2. For WAHA Jr, we place children in groups of 16 to 20 students, based on age, not grade level. Please let us know if this does not work for your child for some reason.

3. At a parent's request, we will try to keep siblings or best-friends together (or apart!), if possible.

4. Each child will participate in all three WAHA Jr. classes: Art, Gym, and Science. We are
exploring adding Music as an option for students who may not be ready for Science yet.

5. All classes meet on Tuesdays at Westerville Christian Church, 471 E. College Avenue. The calendar is the same as the "Big Kids" - 12 weeks in the fall and 12 weeks in the winter.

6. The 12 week, 36 hour program is just $109 per child per semester which is only $3.03 per hour! There is also a materials fee of $17 per semester.

7. Space is limited, so be sure to register as soon as you can!

8. Please note that your child is not officially registered until the FamilyVision / WAHA
membership ($39 per family per year) and $109 per child fee (plus $17 for materials fees), for the first semester is paid.

9. The volunteer requirement for each Mom (or Dad) is just one morning per semester. Now, that's good news, isn't it?

10. You can register right now, online, here. Make all checks payable to FamilyVision, and mail to PO Box 263, Westerville, OH, 43086.

We're looking forward to a great year. Don't forget to register soon!

WAHA Jr. Classes

We encourage WAHA Jr. students to make the most of the WAHA experience by taking afternoon classes, too. The following WAHA classes are good choices for many WAHA Jr. children:

Latin 101

Middle School Math

Rainbow Science

Group Guitar

Choir

Theater (if they are mature for their age)

Self-Defense

Gym

Chris

Gym is by far our most popular class. Everyone loves "The Amazing Mr. Q." WAHA Jr Gym classes typically include 35-40 students per class, both boys and girls. Younger students will be grouped together, older students grouped together, etc. The gym classes are a mix of cooperative and "ice-breaker" games designed to help children get to know each other and work together toward common goals, and competitive games that will prove challenging to even the most athletic students, without leaving the less athletic behind. A fun time guaranteed for all!

Science

Steve, Moris

We have two WAHA Jr. Science sections this year. Our four youngest classes (comprised of ages 5, 6, 7, and 8 or 9) will study Apologia's "Exploring Creation with Zoology 2, Swimming Creatures." This section includes Fish, Whales, Sharks and Rays, Seals, and Squids! Students do NOT need to purchase the book for this class (but you may do so, if you wish).

Our oldest WAHA Jr. class will study "Hands-On Science," a curriculum designed by our Chemistry PhD instructor. We have six WAHA Jr. science classes, divided by age, not grade. Hands-On Science kids will probably be somewhere between 9 and 11 years old. This unit includes: Developing/testing hypothesis; Basic measurement skills/units/data-graphing skill; Series of science experiments in various science fields: Chemistry, Physics, Geology, DNA, Biology (microscopic evaluation/insect behavior); Science fair poster demonstration; COSI field trip possible.

Art

Elaine, Brittany

We believe the Arts are an important part of a real education. Our Art teachers are experienced artists who love children, and love communicating God's beauty and glory through Art. What a great way to get to know the creator - learning Art!

Note: Supplies listed below need to be provided by parents. All other supplies are covered in the supplies fee.
